At the East Neuk Spirit Company, we’re excited to announce the launch of the Dorchadas Washed Ashore Series, a celebration of unique and rare rums with stories that span oceans and adventures. Our latest release is inspired by legends of smugglers braving storms only to find their precious cargo scattered along the shores of Kincrag. These tales of daring and discovery drive our quest to find exceptional rums with journeys as captivating as their flavours.
A Journey Across Oceans
The Washed Ashore Series is dedicated to finding extraordinary rums that have travelled from the warmth of the tropics to our cool, rugged coastlines. These are not just spirits but stories captured in a cask. Our focus is on sourcing rare and premium rums that originate in their tropical climates and make their way to the UK, where the maturation process is completed in our distinctive cold weather.
The First Release: A French Caribbean Agricole
Our inaugural release in the Washed Ashore Series is a French Caribbean Agricole-style rum, a perfect expression of the region’s renowned distilling tradition. The rum is crafted from sugar cane juice, which imparts a distinctively fruity and funky base character. It begins its life in the hot and humid climate of Mauritius, maturing in French virgin oak casks that encourage rapid flavor development. Over time, the rum evolves into a rich and complex spirit, bursting with fruity notes and hints of wood oils—a profile best described as “wine gums for adults.”
Maturation on UK Shores
Once the cask made its way across the high seas to the UK, it was re-racked into an ex-Bourbon cask to complete its journey. The cooler climate of our shores allows for a gentle, prolonged finishing process, which softens and smooths the spirit, refining its character and creating a beautifully balanced dram. The result is a rum that combines the bold flavours of its tropical origin with the subtlety and depth of a UK maturation.
