Smuggling caves in East Neuk are awash with tales of adventure and legend. These hidden caves were used during the 18th and 19th centuries by smugglers who sought to avoid paying taxes on their goods.
The free-traders would transport contraband such as alcohol, and tobacco through the caves to avoid detection by customs officials. These caves provided these dangerous men with shelter, storage and fortification.
One such tale is that of Dorchadas – an arcane and curious rum, distilled in the Caribbean.
The smugglers would fight through wrack an’ wraith to bring this rare spirit to shore, navigating treacherous waters while giving the ‘excise-men’ a wide berth.
It was said that the taste of Dorchadas was so rich and complex that it could transport the drinker to another time and place.
Two modern-day vagabonds now seek to revive the legendary recipe of Dorchadas, after using a kaleidoscope to decipher ancient markings on the walls of Wemyss cave…
This unique legacy unfolds in the quality and craft in every measure of the spirit, and the adornment of each individual bottle — each mark and decoration holds significance. A homage to the free-traders.

Sea Buckthorn
Well it is a super food…. High in antioxidants, however we utilise it for its sweet citrus flavour profile and fantastic amber hue.
Cocoa Husk
Cocoa husks help give us subtle dark chocolate notes on the nose. The great thing about Cocoa husks is they are a co product from the chocolate making process.
Cubeb
Indonesian peppercorn a softer more floral pepper variety is great for a more delicate spice profile.
Grains of Paradise
Is from the west African cardamom family, and a great way to round the spice in our rum.
Cassia Bark
The cool south American cousin of cinnamon. It is said that it also has medicinal benefits, although this is definitely not medical advice.
